On November 20, 2019, a meeting of the Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Association of Managers took place on the topic "Modern approaches to waste management: a zero-waste model for business."
Over the past 10 years, world GDP has increased by a third, world production is also growing, and now it is several times higher than in the 20th century. For example, over the past 40 years, the annual global production of polymers has increased eightfold. The production of basic materials (metals, glass, concrete) is also growing 2-4 times.
Along with the growth of production volumes, the amount of production waste also grows, which puts the problem of waste processing and disposal to a new level. Gradually, the problem has grown from a purely ecological to a social and ecological one: landfills have become an important trigger of protest moods, and "green" consumption is reformatting the market.
At the meeting, experts discussed the existing methods of waste management, best corporate practices for waste recycling and reducing the resource intensity of production.
